Summer Bluegrass & Old Time Workshops and Concert

Weekend of 15 to 17 May 2020

This year’s Summer Workshops on the Saturday & Sunday will be led by the highly talented and immensely popular Bluegrass Band The Often Herd , winners of the 2018 European Band contest at the La Rochel Bluegrass Festival , plus Bertie Armstrong of Holly & The Reivers and Garry McFadden of The Daddy Naggins

On the Saturday evening The Often Herd & Bertie Armstrong will perform in Concert

The Tutors for the workshops are:

  • Evan Davies – Mandolin
  • Niles Krieger – Fiddle
  • Sam Quintana – Double Bass
  • Bertie Armstrong – Clawhammer Banjo
  • Garry McFadden – Bluegrass Banjo (Saturday only)

Programme For Weekend

  • Friday Evening 15 May
  • Saturday Morning & Afternoon 16 May
    • 10am-10:30am Registration and introductions at Glencairn Memorial Institute
    • 10:30am to 11:30am – Instrument Workshops focussing on technique and learning new songs/tunes
    • 11:30am to Noon  – Coffee/tea break plus time for personal music practice
    • Noon to 1pm – Instrument Workshops (continued)
    • 1pm to 2pm – Lunch
    • 2pm to 2:45pm – Instrument Workshops (continued)
    • 2.45pm to 3.15pm – Coffee/tea break plus time for personal music practice
    • 3:15pm to 4pm – Instrument Workshops (continued)
    • 4pm to 5pm – Tutor led slow jam playing tunes and songs covered in workshops and additional pre-circulated tunes and songs
  • Saturday Evening 16 May
    • 8pm – The Often Herd & Bertie Armstrong in concert in the Coach House
  • Sunday 17 May
    • 10am to 10:50am – Harmony singing workshops at Glencairn Memorial Institute
    • 10:50am to 11:10am – Coffee/tea break
    • 11:10am to Noon – Harmony singing workshops (continued)
    • Noon to 1pm – Lunch
    • 1pm to 2pm – Scratch band practice
    • 2pm to 4pm – Scratch band practice with single mic, stagecraft guidance plus scratch band performances in the Coach House

    After ticket purchase, in order to help the workshop tutors plan the weekend, please register for the workshop using the links below.

      • Available to those who are 16 or 17 year old, students, unemployed, on benefits & over 64 year old

    • Under 16 Tickets Free
      • Must be accompanied by a responsible adult at Workshop & Concert
      • There is no additional charge for the accompanying adult attending the Workshop provided they have not brought their own musical instrument in order to take part in the Workshop. However there is a £10 charge for the accompanying adult to attend the concert.

Refund Policy

A full refund if requested prior to the event starting (10am Saturday 16 May 2020). To receive a refunds please click on Ticket Refund Request and enter your details and “send”.

In the event that Coronavirus causes the Summer Bluegrass & Old Time Workshops and Concert Weekend to be cancelled all ticket money received will be refunded.
