About the Festival

Moniaive Michaelmas Bluegrass Festival (MMBF) is a community music festival which held its inaugural festival in September 2009.Since then it has grown in popularity and is normally SOLD OUT prior to the first band taking to the stage,

MMBF seeks to promote bluegrass and old timey music. We also encourage people of all ages to begin to learn an instrument associated with bluegrass and old timey music by offering free instrument workshops at the festival and also by holding a summer instrument workshop annually.

MMBF committee are all volunteers from Somerset, Ayr, Fife, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries and the village itself. Such is the commitment of volunteers that distance never hampers people from turning up to erect stages, shift chairs, sell merchandise and look after the performers.

History

MMBF started in 2009 when a small number of bluegrass enthusiasts formed a festival committee and chose the last full weekend of September known as ‘Michaelmas’.

A plaque was previously discovered in Moniaive which indicated the village had the right to hold a fair on that particular weekend so ‘fair’ quickly became ‘festival’.

Camping

Campers may access the campsite from 12 noon on Thursday September 27th and must be off by 12 noon on Monday October 1st 2018.
